Mixing suggestions: (these 'tips" will help me do a better job for you)
- Try to keep peaks at -3 to -5 db and don't worry about getting the mix "as loud as possible". This will make a more dynamic mix - I will raise the level to be commercially competative for your style. If you're referencing your mix to a commercial CD, remember that CD has been mastered and is probably 3 to 4 db hotter than the original mix.
- Please don't use a "finalizer" or "maximizer" type insert on the mix (see above). Once that is done, it is virtually impossible to reverse the damage.
- If you use compression on the master buss, please be conservative. Again, too much really can't be undone.
- Listen to your mixes to make sure you have the right version, etc. before sending them.
- Please send detailed information concerning song sequence and any special fades or crossfades. If you require ISRC codes to be embeded, you will need to supply those to me before the Production Master is burned.
- Above all, please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have during the mixing stage - it's all about communication!
"Mastering is more than just knowing how to manipulate the sound to get it to where somebody wants it to go...a lot of it is this willingness to enter into another person's world and get to know it and actually help that person express what he is trying to express, only better." Bernie Grundman
